DTS

Digital audio compression technology developed by DTS, Inc. This technology

conlorms to 5.l-channel surround. This lormat

comprises of stereo rear channel and there is discrete subwoofer channel in this format. DTS

provides the same 5.1 discrete channels of high quality digital audio. The good channel separaOnu is realized due to the all channel data being recorded discretely and prncessed in digitally.

DVD

A disc that contains up to 8 hours of moving pictures even though its diameter is the same as a CD.

The data capacity nfa single-layer and single- sided DVD, at 4.7 GB (Giga Byte), is 7 times that of a CD. Furthermore, the data capacity nf a

duaElayer and single-sided DVD is 8.5 GB, a singleqayer and double-sided DVD 9.4 GB, and a duaMayer and double-sided DVD 17 GB.

The picture data uses the MPEG 2 l\_rmat, one of a worldwide standard of digital compression technology. The picture data is compressed to about 1/40 of its original size. The DVD also uses the variable rate coding technology that

processes allocated data according to the status of the picture.

The audio data is recorded in Dolby Digital as well as in PCM, allowing you tn enjoy more realistic audio presence.

Furthermore, various advanced flmctious such

as tl_e multi-angle, multilingual, and Parental Control fnnctions are provided with the DVD.

DVD+RW

A DVD+RW (plus RW) is a recordable and rewritable disc. DVD+RWs use a recording lormat that is comparable to the DVD VIDEO lormat.

DVD-RW

A DVD-RW is a recnrdable and rewritable disc that is the same size as a DVD VIDEO. The DVD-RW has two different modes: VR mode and Video mode. DVD-RWs created in Video mode have the same format as a DVD VIDEO, while discs created in VR (Video Recording)

mode allow the contents to be programmed or edited.

File

A JPEG image recnrded on a DATA CD/DATA DVD. ("File" is an exclusive definition for this system.) A single file consists of a single image

or nlovie.

Film based software, Video based software

DVDs can he classified as Fihn hased or Vide<) based software. Fihn based DVDs contain the same inmges (24 lbames per second) that are shown at movie theaters. Video based DVDs, such as television dramas or sit-corns, displays images at 30 frames (or 60 fields) per second.

HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface)

HDMI is an interthce that supports both video and audio nu a single digital connecdnn, allowing you to enjoy high quality digital picture and sound. The HDMI specification

supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital

Contents Protection), a copy protection

technology that incorporates coding technology lk)r digital vide<) signals.
