Operation

The 9E106-06 module is a seven port device, six front panel ports, each representing a separate Ethernet collision domain, and one backplane connection to FNB-1 or FNB-2.

As shown in Figure 3-1, packets received through one of the six front panel Ethernet ports and destined for another SmartSwitch 9000 module are translated by the i960 Switch Processor into a FDDI frame format and then sent to FNB-1 or FNB-2.
