8:Terminal and Host Settings

Predefined connections are available via telnet, ssh, or a serial port. A user can choose one of the presented options and the device automatically makes the predefined connection.

Either the Telnet, SSH, or serial port connection can present the CLI or the Login Connect Menu. By default, the CLI is presented when the device is accessed. When configured to present the Login Connect Menu, the hosts configured via the Host selections, and named serial lines are presented.

Terminal Settings

You can configure whether each serial line or the telnet/SSH server presents a CLI or a Login Connect menu when a connection is made.

Table 8-1 Terminal on Network and Line Settings

Terminal on Network

Description

and Line Settings

Terminal Type

Enter text to describe the type of terminal. The text will be sent to a host via IAC.

Note: IAC means, “interpret as command.” It is a way to send commands over

the network such as send break or start echoing.

Login Connect Menu

Select the interface to display when the user logs in. Choices are:

Enabled = shows the Login Connect Menu.

Disabled = shows the CLI (default)

Exit Connect Menu

Select whether to display a choice for the user to exit the Login Connect Menu

and reach the CLI. Choices are:

Enabled = a choice allows the user to exit to the CLI.

Disabled = there is no exit to the CLI (default)

Send Break

Enter a Send Break control character, e.g., <control> Y, or blank to disable.

When the Send Break control character is received from the network on its way

to the serial line, it is not sent to the line; instead, the line output is forced to be

inactive (the break condition).

Note: This configuration option is only available for Line Terminals.

Break Duration

Enter how long the break should last in milliseconds, up to 10000. Default is

500.

Note: This configuration option is only available for Line Terminals.

Echo

Select whether to enable echo:

Enabled

Disabled

Note: Applies only to Connect Mode Telnet connections, not to Accept Mode.

Only disable Echo if your terminal echoes, in which case you will see double of

each character typed. Default is enabled.
