Performing a Default Installation
The following sections outline the default installation procedure.
Booting from the Installation Media
To install the NCR UNIX SVR4
1.Insert Boot flex #1 in the flex disk drive.
2.This step depends on the current operating state of the system.
∙If the system is powered down, turn on the monitor and the main unit, and go to Step 4.
∙If the machine is currently up and running, you must perform an orderly shutdown of the operating system. Go to Step 3.
3.Perform an orderly shutdown by logging in as root and entering the following command from the / (root) directory:
# shutdown
(where x=number of seconds to wait until shutdown)
As the system performs its shutdown procedure, a series of messages displays. This may take awhile.
4. During the UNIX system boot process, the following message displays:
Please insert Boot flex #2 and press ENTER >
5.Remove Boot flex #1. Insert Boot flex #2 and press Enter. A series of messages displays.
If a message similar to the following displays, go to Step 6. Otherwise, go to Step 7.

6.If you want to change the terminal type, type y and press Enter. If you do not want to change the terminal type, press Enter.
