Receiving a Fax

Receiving a Fax

Your multi-function machine has three reception modes:

¥In FAX mode, the machine answers an incoming call and immediately goes into receive mode, waiting for a fax to be sent.

¥In ANS/FAX mode, the answering machine answers an incoming call, and the caller can leave a message on the answering machine. If the fax machine senses a fax tone on the line, the call automatically switches over to the fax machine. To use the ANS/FAX mode, you have to attach an answering machine to the EXT socket on your fax machine (see page 1.8).

¥In TEL mode, automatic fax reception is turned off. You can receive a fax only by manually picking up the handset and pressing Start.

The current reception mode is displayed in the bottom line of the display window when the machine is in Standby mode.

Note: While you print a PC file with this machine, an incoming fax will be received and stored in memory. If you have a lot of pages to print, we recommend stopping PC printing to prevent memory from becoming full. (SF-5800P only)
