Error messages in the Activity Log are in two parts, for example:

E1014 Failed to format tape TESTTAPE1

Controller failure

The first part of the error message specifies what sort of error occurred; the second part suggests the cause of the error.

IMPORTANT: The causes of errors suggested by the Activity Log may be inaccurate. For example, time-outs and drive lockups are also reported as controller failures.
