Troubleshooting

Engraving Quality

	Problem				Possible Cause		Possible Solution
“Fuzzy” looking raster engraving				∙	Dirty laser system	∙	Clean all optics, rails, bearings and belts
or small text appears like a				∙	Graphic, graphic software, graphic	∙	Check to see what has changed. Use
“double image”					software setup, color palette, monitor		“Software Setup Guide” to properly setup
					display colors, or driver settings have		the graphics software to work correctly

				∙	Laser Tube is faulty		“Tuning” feature
						∙	Replace laser tube
Fine detail is missing such as				∙	Speed too fast for the material	∙	Slow down engraving speed
the serif’s of characters or thin				∙	Out of focus	∙	Re-focus
lines of script fonts when raster				∙	System needs tuning	∙	Run “Tuning” feature in printer driver
engraving							version 4.17 and higher
				∙	Laser spot size too big	∙	Use shorter focal length lens
Vertical or diagonal background				∙	Dirty laser system	∙	Clean all optics, rails, bearings and belts
pattern	present	when	raster	∙	Slight pattern is normal	∙	Don’t remove so much material or try
engraving large		areas	and/or				engraving shallower or deeper. Try
large amounts of material							changing PPI and or DPI
						∙ Use a 50% black fill to “halftone” the
							background which can hide the pattern
				If the pattern is excessive:
				∙	Loose motion system components	∙	Check X-axis bearings, belt, optics
				∙	Worn or damaged X-axis bearings	∙	Replace X-axis bearings
				∙	Worn or damaged X-axis rail	∙	Replace X-axis arm
Horizontal background			pattern	∙	Dirty laser system	∙	Clean all optics, rails, bearings and belts
present	when raster engraving			∙	Slight pattern is normal	∙	Don’t remove so much material or try
large	areas	and/or	large				engraving shallower or deeper. Try
amounts of material							changing PPI and or DPI
						∙ Use a 50% black fill to “halftone” the
							background which can hide the pattern
				If the pattern is excessive:
				∙	Laser is too cold or hot	∙	Check and/or clean filters
						∙	Make sure ambient temperature is
							within specifications
