5.6 Configuring the Routing Function

Function

The routing function enables a computer network to forward data packets between different subnets so that computers in different subnets can communicate with each other.

Path

Choose Advanced > Routing.

Parameter Description

Table 5-7describes static routing parameters.

Table 5-7Static routing parameters

Parameter

Description

Destination network

It specifies the IP address of the destination computer. It can

address

be the IP address of a specific computer or the IP address of

a network. This destination IP address can also be 0.0.0.0,

which indicates that the destination address is not specified.

Then, the HG612 checks whether there is another routing

rule is using this destination IP address. If not, data packets

are routed based the other parameter settings. For example,

data packets can be transmitted to the gateway that is set

through Default gateway.

Subnet mask

It specifies the subnet mask. The subnet mask along with the

destination IP address defines the destination network of

data packets.

Default gateway

It specifies the IP address of the gateway that receives data

packets.

If the destination IP address of data packets is within the

destination network defined by the routing rule, the HG612

forwards the data packets to this gateway.

Interface

It specifies the ID of the connection to be configured.
