3.4NVRAM RESET SWITCH
The ESX uses Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) to store user-entered parameters such as IP addresses and Community Names. The NVRAM reset switch (location shown in Figure 3-5), prepares the ESX electronics to reset NVRAM on either the next power up or the next operation of the front panel RESET button.

Changing the NVRAM reset switch position has no effect on operation until the RESET button is pressed or the power to the ESX is cycled. This will initiate the ESX processor and clear the NVRAM of user-entered parameters such as IP addresses and community names.
Use only a non-metallic tool to set the NVRAM reset switch. Otherwise, injury or damage to the ESX may occur.
To change the NVRAM reset switch position, use a non-metallictool to reach in through the chassis grillwork and move the switch. There is no need to remove the chassis cover to set the NVRAM reset switch.
