The AXIS 1440 supports WINS (Windows Internet Name Service), which is recommended when you are using DHCP in a Windows NT network to set the Internet address.

Note: If a host name has not been mapped to the Internet address, you can still download the Internet address to your AXIS 1440 using the steps described in Using DHCP in Windows below. Just replace the host name entries with the Internet address wherever necessary.

Using DHCP in Follow these steps to use DHCP to download the Internet address:

Windows

1. Edit or create a scope in the DHCP manager of the DHCP daemon. The entries included in this scope should contain the following parameters:

• range of Internet addresses

• subnet mask

• default router Internet address

• WINS server Internet address(es)

• lease duration

2. Activate the scope.

The AXIS 1440 automatically downloads the DHCP parameters.

If you intend to use WINS, at least one WINS server Internet address must be included in the DHCP scope. Immediately after the Internet address is received, the AXIS 1440 registers its host name and Internet address on the WINS server.
