Section 8 Setting Up - UNIX

The AXIS 1440 supports LPR/LPD printing in several UNIX environments. This section describes how to create LPR print queues using the axinstall installation script and how to print to an LPR print queue.

If you plan to use the AXIS 1440 in a multiprotocol environment, you need to set it up for each environment in your network. See the relevant sections in this manual.

Section 6 Setting Up Macintosh Computers on page 47

Section 7 Setting Up OS/2 Workstations on page 49

Notes: You must assign an Internet (IP) address to the AXIS 1440 before beginning these procedures. See Configuring the Print Server for TCP/IP on page 23.

EPSON does not provide UNIX printer drivers for the supported printers. You must obtain these printer drivers from third-party vendors.

The examples provided throughout this section are specific to a BSD (Berkeley UNIX) system. System responses and print filenames on other UNIX systems may be different. See your UNIX documentation for more detailed information.

Some System V versions do not support LPD.

If you need more information about axinstall, visit the EPSON Home Page at http://www.epson.com.
