Setting Up Multi-Host

Server Properties—Transmission

TheTransmissionpageallowstheuser tosetthe TransmissionModeandTx FIFOoptionsforeachofNPortServer Pro’sports.

Transmission Mode

Select Hi-Performancetousebuffering technologytoacceleratedatawriting. Thisallowsyourcommunication softwaretoreachmaximum data throughputwhentransmittinglarge amountsofdata.Thedriverwillnotify theuserthatthetransmissionis completedwhentheoutputdatalengthis lowerthantheLOWWATERsetting.

ClassicalMode letstheportbehavelikeagenericCOMport.Transmissionofsmalldatapacketsis morepreciseandreliable.Inthiscase,thedriverwillnotifytheuserthatthetransmissioniscomplete whenalldatahasbeentransmitted.

Tx FIFO

SettoEnabletothegetthebestperformancefromtheboard.

SettoDisabletoavoiddatalosswhencommunicatingwithplaincommunicationdevicesusingS/W flowcontrol.InthiscaseonlyonebytewillbeputintotheUARTwhentheFIFOisempty.

Access Control

ItispossibletoassignaccesspermissiontohoststoallowthemaccesstotheportsonasharedNPort ServerPro.Forsecurityreasons,theaccesscontrollistcanonlybedefinedbytheserver’s administrator.Ifyouhavenotbeengrantedaccesstoaport,youwillseeascreenwiththemessage ‘Non-authorized’forthat port.

AfterrunningAddServerWizardandtypinginyourpasswordshowingthatyouarethe administrator,youaregrantedaccesstotheserveryouhaveadded.Youmaygotoserverproperties tocheckthat.However,ifyoudidnotenterthecorrectpassword,youcanstillmaptheportstoyour NT/95/98,butyouwillnothaveaccesstotheports.Youwillneedtoaskyouradministratortoadd yourIPaddresstotheaccesscontrollistoftheservertograntyouaccess.IfyouarenotsureoftheIP addressofthehostyouwanttoadd,run‘ipconfig’fromthehost’sNT/95/98MS-DOSprompt.
