IfyoudecidetoconfigureyourNPortServerProasMulti-Host,youwillneedtoknowsomething aboutthenetworkingconceptofassigningIPaddresses.Therearetwobasicrolesatplaywiththis applicationmode—theadministrator,andgeneralusers.TheadministratorassignsadedicatedIP addresstoNPortServerPro,sothatotherWindowsNT/95/98hostsonthenetwork,i.e.,thegeneral users,areabletolocatetheserverthatisbeingadministered.Theadministratoralsodecideswhohas therighttoaccesswhichports.Generalusersonlyneedtoinstallthedriverandsoftware,addNPort ServerPrototheirsystem,andthenruntheirapplication.TheseproceduresprotectNPortServer Pro’ssecurity,andhelpkeeptheserverrunningasaclean,simpledeviceforserialcommunication.

.Note: Multi-Host Mode is designed to be used only at the local level, such as over a LAN.
