NPortServerProprovidesadatacommunicationsolutionforconnectingWindowsNT/95/98hosts tomultipleasynchronousRS-232serialportsthroughaTCP/IPnetwork.Eachmodelhas8(DE-308) or16(DE-303)asynchronousRS-232serialportconnections,andone10/100MbpsEthernet connection,allowinganydevicethatsupportsprimarilytheasynchronouscommunicationsprotocol toattachtoanetwork.NPortServerProworkslikeanadd-onmulti-portserialboardtotheNT/95/98 server,butwithonemajoradvantage—theTCP/IPnetwork.SincetheWindowsNT/95/98host communicateswiththeCOMportsonNportServerProoveraTCP/IPnetwork,youareableto controlasynchronousserialdevicesfromvirtuallyanywhereintheworld.

AlthoughitconnectsthroughthevirtuallinkoftheEthernet,theportsonNPortServerProare recognizedasrealCOMportsbytheWindowsNT/95/98operatingsystem.NPortServerPro providesthebasictransmit/receivedatafunctions,aswellasRTS,CTS,DTR,DSR,andDCD controlsignals.Moreover,theNPortServerProdriverisfullycompatiblewiththeWindows NT/95/98standardCOMdriver.
