logic operators Theimage operations AND, NAND, OR, XOR, NOR, XNOR, difference,

mask,mean,max,andmin.

lossless compression Compressionin which the decompressed image is identical to the original

image.

lossy compression Compression in which the decompressed image is visually similar but not

identical to the original image.

lowpassattenuation Applies a linear attenuation to the frequencies in an image, with no

attenuation at the lowestfrequency and full attenuation at the hi ghest

frequency.

lowpassFFT filter Removes or attenuates high frequencies present in the FFT domain of an

image.

lowpassfilter Attenuates intensity variationsi n an image. Youcan use these filters to

smooth an image byeli minating finedetails and blurri ng edges.

lowpassfrequency filter Attenuateshigh frequencies present in the frequency domain of the image.

Alowpass frequency filter suppresses information related to fast variations

ofl ight intensities in the spatial image.

lowpasstruncation Removes all frequency information abovea certain frequency.

LSB Leastsignificant bit.

L-skeletonfunction Uses an L-shaped structuring element in the skeleton function.

luma Thebrightnessinform ation in the video picture. The luma signal amplitude

variesin proportion to the brightne ss of the video signal and corresponds

exactlyto the mono chrome picture.

luminance See luma.

LUT Lookuptable. Table containing values used to transform the gray-level

valuesof an image. For each gray-level value in the image, the

corresponding newvalue is obtained from the lookup table.

machine vision Anautomated application that performs a set of visual inspection tasks.

mask FFT filter Removesfrequencies contained in a mask (range) specified by the user.
