Installation and ConfigurationThis chapter contains information about installing and configuring your
NI8171 seriescontroller.
Installing the NI 8171 Series
This section contains general installation instructions for the NI 8171
series.C onsult your PXI chassis user manual for specific instructions and
warnings.
1. Plug in your chassis before installing the NI 8171 series. The power
cord grounds the chassis and protects it from electrical damage while
you installt he module. (Makesure the power switch is turned off.)
Caution Toprotect both yourself and the chassis from electrical hazards, leave the chassis
offuntil you finish installing the NI 8171 series module.
2. Removeany filler panels blocking access to the system controller slot
(Slot1) in the chassis.
3. Touchthe metal part of the case to discharge any static electricity that
might be on your clothes or body.
4. Makesure the inject or/ejector handle is in its downward position.
Alignthe NI 8171 series with the card guides o n the top and bottom of
the system controller slot.
Caution Do not raise the injector/ejector handle as you insert the NI 8171 series. The
modulewill not insert properly unless the hand le is in its downwardposi tion so that it does
notinterfere with the injector rail on the chassis.
5. Hold the handle as you slowly slide the module into the chassis until
the handle catches on theinjector/ejector rail.
6. Raisethe injector/ejector handl eu ntil the module firmlyseats into the
backplanereceptacle connectors. The front panel of the NI 8171 series
should be evenwith the front panel of the chassis.
7. Tightenthe four bracket-retaining screws onthe top and bottom of the
frontp anel to secureth e NI 8171 series to the chassis.
