Common Configuration Questions
Thischapter answers common configuration questions you may have when
using the NI 8171 series embedded controller.

General Questions

Whatdo the LEDs on the NI 8171 series front panel mean?
The green LED indicatesthe powersupplies to/on the NI 8171 series are
withinspec. The supplies monitored are 3.3 V,5 V, +12 V,and the internally
regulatedprocessor core voltage. The hard drive LED lights when there is
hard driveactivity on the NI 8171 series.
How do I check the configuration of the memory, floppy drive, hard
drive,time/date, andso on?
Youcan view these parametersi n the BIOS setup. Toenter the BIOS setup,
rebootthe NI 8171 series and press <Del ete> during the memory tests. See
the EnteringBIOS Setup section in Chapter 2, Installation and
Configuration, for more information.
Can I use the internal IDE drive and an external SCSI hard drive at
thesametime?
Yes.

Boot Options

Whatdevices can I boot from?
The NI 8171 series can boot from the followingdevices:
The internal IDE hard drive.
The internal1.44 MB floppydrive.
The internal IDE CD-ROMin a PXI-1020 or PXI-1025 chassis.
An externalSCSI hard drive or CD-ROM if an SCSI adapter, such as
the PXI-8210, is used.
