Chassis Mouse and Keyboard
The PXI-1020 has an integrated PS/2 mouse. The PXI-1025 has an
integrated PS/2 keyboard and mouse. To simplify the configuration for
thesechassis, the NI 8171 series includes an internal USB-to-PS/2 adapter.
When the NI 8171 series is installed in a PXI-1020 or PXI-1025 chassis,
the USB-to-PS/2 adapter is enabled automatically. With this adapter, you
canuse both the chassis’integrated keyboard/mouse and the PS/2 keyboard
and mouse connected to the NI 8171 series front panel. To enable
keyboard/mouse access in DOS or Windows 2000 environments, you
mustenable the legacy USB. See the Boot Options section for m ore
information.
Howdo I set up the NI 8171 series to work with my chassis?
Apxisys.inifile is associated with each chassis. This file allows
softwareapplications such as Measurement & Automation Explorer
(MAX) to identify the slot number for each board in the chassis.
Youneed the correct pxisys.ini file for your chassis. Youcan find these
filesat ni.com/support/pxisupp.htm.. (Some chassis .ini fi les are
also included on the PXI System Initialization for NI 8171 floppy disk
includedwith the NI-8171 series controller.) Copy the file to the C:\WINNT
directory.
Upgrade InformationHowdo I upgrade system memory?
Youcan change the amount of installed RAM on the NI 8171 series by
upgrading the SO-DIMM.
Toupgrade the RAM, remove the NI 8171 series from the PXI chassis.
Removethe old SO-DI MM module and install the new SO-DIMM in the
socketas shown in Figure 4-2.
NationalInstruments offers the following types of SO-DIMMs for use with
the NI 8171 series controller.
•128 MB, 16MB ×64, 7.5 ns, 1.05 in. max
•256 MB, 32MB ×64,7.5ns,1.05in.max
Note NationalInstruments hastested and verified that the SO-DIMMs we sell work with
theNI 8171 series. We recommend you purchase your SO-DIMM modules from National
Instruments. Other off-the-shelfSO-DIMM m odules are not guaranteed to workproperly.
