APPENDIX C: HOW TO CHANGE WIRELESS
SECURITY ON YOUR NB9W
WEP encryption
The NB9W has the WEP encryption enabled by default. To change the encryption key, please follow the following steps:
1. Connect the computer directly to the modem using Ethernet cable.
2. Open the web configuration, http://192.168.1.1/ from your web browser i.e. Internet explorer, Firefox.
3. At the log in screen, enter the Username and password. The default Username is “admin” and the default
Password is “admin”. Then click on “Login”.
4. Click on “Wireless” and then click on “Security”
5. Change the Encryption Strength to either 64 bit or 128 bit. 128bit Cipher is more secure however it will
lower the data transfer speed compare to 64bit. For most home user, 64bit Cipher is adequate.
Note: 64 bit Cipher needs 10 digits Encryption key and 128 bit Cipher needs 26 digits Encryption key.
6. Change the Network key 1 from “a1b2c3d4e5” to the new key. Please note that WEP Encryption key can
only use numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. 64 bit Cipher needs 10 digits Encryption key and
128 bit Cipher needs 26 digits Encryption key.
7. Click on “Save/Apply”
Notes: After changing the security settings, you need to remove the old wireless settings and reconfigure the wireless computer
according to the new settings.
