MMetering

The process of measuring the brightness of the subject to determine the exposure is known as “metering.”

variety of shooting conditions. Recommended for typical

shooting.

The camera meters the entire frame but assigns greatest weight

to the subject at the center of the frame. The classic metering for

qCenter-weighted portraits; it preserves background details while letting lighting conditions at the center of the frame determine exposure. Can be used with focus lock (A81) to meter off-center subjects.

The camera meters the area shown by the circle at the center of the frame. This can be used when the subject is much lighter or

r Spotdarker than the background. Ensure that the subject is within the area shown by the circle when shooting. Can be used with focus lock (A81) to meter off-center subjects.

BNotes on Metering

When the digital zoom is in effect, Metering is set to Center-weightedor Spot depending on the magnification of an enlargement.

If AF area mode (E43) is set to Manual when Metering is set to Matrix, the camera meters by assigning greatest weight to the focus area.

Some features cannot be used in combination with other menu settings. See “Features Not Available in Combination” (A74) for more information.
