Attaching the antistatic wrist strap

Nortel ships the VPN Router 1750 with an antistatic wrist strap, which directs the discharge of static electricity from your body to the chassis of the gateway to avoid damage to sensitive electronic components.

You must wear an antistatic wrist strap on your arm when you remove, install, or handle option cards and DIMMs.

Caution: Risk of equipment damage

Electrostatic discharge can damage hardware. Perform the procedure in this section to protect your equipment from damage.

To attach the antistatic wrist strap, perform the following steps:

1Locate the antistatic wrist strap, and then verify that the cable is attached to it.

2Place the strap around your wrist, and then adjust the strap to ensure that the metal buckle inside the strap touches your skin.

3Insert the banana plug into the grounding jack at the rear of the chassis as shown in the following figure.
