Glossary

WAPWireless Access Point or WAP is the center of a wireless home network. All communication

between devices in a wireless network is carried out via the WAP.

WEPWired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is a security protocol that provides a wireless local area

network (WLAN) with a high level of security and privacy by encoding all communication in the

network

WiFiWiFi or Wireless Fidelity is a term that is used for certain types of wireless local area

networks (WLANS) that make use of the 802.11 standard.

WPAWPA or WiFi Protected Access is a network communication standard that increases the

level of data protection (encryption) and access control (authentication) for existing and future

WiFi wireless networks.
