Troubleshooting – Operating Problems

Trouble Probable Cause Remedy
Table tilt does not
hold position under
load. Table locking k nobs are not tight. Tighten loc ki ng k nobs .
Table will not tilt . Tr unnion is not lubricated. Gr ease the trunni on.
Trunnion is ja mmed. Disassemble and r eplace jammed
parts.
Saw vibra tes
excessively. Stand is on uneven floor . Re-position on flat, level surface.
Drive belt is too sl ac k, or worn. Increase tension on drive belt.
Replac e belt if worn.
Mot or plate screws or other hardware
on saw is loose. Tighten all har dware.
Inc or r ec t choi c e of saw blade pi tch. Check blade selection chart and use
corr ec t blade.
Saw dust or debr is on band wheel. Or
tire is worn/damaged. Keep band wheels clean. Replace
t ires if necessary .
Low shop voltage. Contact a qualified elect ri ci an.
Surface finish on
workpiec e is rough.
Saw blade speed is too l ow. Inc r ease speed.
Saw blade pitch is too c oar se. Change to finer pitc h blade.
Saw blade cutting
inac curately . Cut s are
not str aight.
Bl ade mounted incor r ec tly. Teeth should poi nt downward.
Angl e pointer not set c orrectly. Check blade with square and adjust
pointer.
Table stop not adjusted c or r ec tly. Check blade with square and adjust
stop.
Gum or pitc h on blade. Clean blade.
Worn blade teeth or damaged blade. Replace blade.
Fenc e not parall el to blade. Align fenc e pr operly (see page 17).
Miter gauge adjusted improperl y . Adj ust mi ter gauge (see page 25)
Inc or r ec t adjustment of bl ade guides. Adj ust blade guides properl y ( see
pages 24-25) .
Workpiec e being fed too strongly. Reduce feed force.
Upper blade guides not located close
enough to workpiece. Guides should be about 3/16” above
workpiece.
Inc or r ec t choi c e of saw blade for that
part icular c utti ng oper ation. Change to cor r ec t blade.
Bl ade tension t oo light. Inc r ease tensi on ( see pag e 22) .
