Troubleshooting – Mechanical and Elect rical Problems

Trouble Probable Cause Remedy
Machine will not
start/restart or
repeat edly t ri ps
circuit breaker or
blo ws fu ses.
No inc oming power . Verify machine is connected to power
source.
El ectric al cord damaged. Replace cord.
Buil ding cir c uit break er trips or fuse
blows.
Verify that band saw is on a circuit of
correct size. If circuit size is correct,
ther e is probably a loose el ectr ic al
lead.
Swit c h or m otor failur e (how to
distinguish).
If you have access to a voltmeter, you
can separate a s witch failure from a
moto r fa i lu re by fi r st, ve rifying
inc oming volt age at 110 +/-10% [or
220 +/-10%] and second, check ing
the voltage between switc h and
m otor . If incomi ng voltage is incorr ec t,
you have a power supply pr oblem. If
v ol tage between start er and m otor is
incorrect, y ou hav e a starter problem.
If volt age between st ar ter and motor
is cor r ec t, you hav e a mot or pr oblem .
Mot or ov er heated. Clean motor of dust or debris to allow
proper air circulation. Allow motor to
cool down befor e r est ar ting.
Motor failure.
If elect ri c motor is suspect, y ou have
two options: Have a qualified
electrician tes t the motor for function
or rem ove the motor and take it to a
qualified electric mot or repair shop
and hav e i t t ested.
Miswi r ing of the unit. Confirm that all elec trical connec tions
are cor r ec t.
Switc h failu r e.
If the start/stop switch is suspect, y ou
hav e two options: Have a qualified
electrician tes t the sw itch for funct ion,
or purc hase a ne w start/stop switch
and establ ish if that was t he pr oblem
on change-out.
Band Saw does not
come up to speed. Ext ension cord t oo light or too long. Replace with adequate size and
length cord.
Low current. Contact a qualified elect ri ci an.
