Grounding Instructions

This tool must be grounded while in use to protect the operator from electric
shock.
In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric
current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with an electric cord having an
equipm ent-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet
that is properl y installed and grounded in acc or danc e with all local c odes and ordinances.
Do not modify the plug provided. If it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified
electrician.
Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The
conductor, with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes, is the
equipm ent-groundi ng conductor. If repair or replacem ent of the electric cord or plug i s necessary, do not
connect the equipment-gr ounding conduc tor to a live t erminal.
Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel if the grounding instructions are not completely
understood, or if in doubt as to whether the tool is properly grounded. Use only three wir e ex tension cor ds
that have three-prong gr ounding plugs and three- pole receptac les that ac cept the tool ’s pl ug.
Repair or replac e a dam aged or worn cord im mediately.
It is recommended that the PWBS-14CS Band Saw, when operated at 115 volts, be connected to a
grounded and dedicated 30 amp circuit with circuit breaker or time delay fuse. When operated at 230
volts, connect the saw to a 20 am p dedic ated ci r cuit wi t h breaker or t im e del ay fuse. Lo cal co des take
precedence over recommend ation s.

115 Volt Operation

As received f r om the factory, your band saw is wired t o run at 115 v olt operati on. This band saw, when
wired for 115 volt s, is i ntended for use on a circuit that has an out let and a plug that looks l ike the one
il lustrated in Figur e 2. A tempor ar y adapt er , which looks li k e the adapt er il lustrated in Figure 3, may be
used to connect this plug to a two-pole rec eptacle, as shown in Figur e 3 if a properl y grounded outlet is
not available. The tempor ar y adapter should only be used until a properly gr ounded outl et can be
inst all ed by a qualif ied electric ian. This adapter is not applicable in Canada. The green colored rigid
ear, lug, or tab, extending from the adapter, m ust be connected to a permanent gr ound such as a
properly gr ounded outl et box, as shown in Figure 3.

230 Volt Operation

If 230V, single-phase operation is desired, the following i nstr uc tions must be followed:
Disconnect the machine from the power sou rce.
This band saw is supplied with four motor leads that are connected for 115V operation, as shown in
Figure 4. Reconnect these four motor leads for 230V operation, as shown in Figure 5. These diagrams
are also found inside t he cover of the motor junction box.
