Essentially,yourpcinterisarobustpieceofe@pmen6 butshouldbetreated
withamodicumof camin otderto avoidmalfunctions.Forexample:
Keepyourprinterin a“comfortable”environment.Roughlyspeaking,if
youmcomfortable,thentheenvironmentissuitableforyourprinter(see
Chapter2).
Donot subjecttheprinterto physicalshocksor excessivevibration.
Avoid over-dustyenvironments.Dust is the enemy of all p~cision
mechanicaldevices.
Tocleantheextenoroftheprinter,useaclothbaselydampenedwitheither
waterwithalittledetergentor alittlealcohol,butdonotallowany liquid
tofall insidetheprinter.
Theinteriorofthe printermaybecleanedwithasmallvacuumcleaneror
acompmssed-airaerosol(soldfor thispurpose). Whenperformingthis
operation,be sure not to bend or damage any cable connectionsor
electroniccomponents.
REPLACINGTHEPRINTHEAD
Thisisnotajob whichyouwillneedtodoveryoften.Theprintheadhasbeen
designedtolast forabout100 milliondraftcharacters.Innonnideveryday
use,this willtmnslatetoyeas of life.However,ifthe printqualityisfaint,
evenafteryouhavechangedtheribbonoryouhaveadjustedthegapbetween
the print head and the platen (see Chapter4), the print head may need
replacement.
Onlyuse areplacementprintheadas mmmmendedby yoursupplier.
1. TurnOFF theprinter,andunplug thepowercml.
2. OPenthefront cover,and~move the ribboncartridge.
3. Iftheprinterhasbeeninoperationimmediatelybefomthisoperation,the
printhead will be hot. Allow time for the printhead to cool before
attemptingtoworkon it.
4. Unsmw thetwo scnewsthathold theprinthead inplace andset them
aside.
5. Disengagetheconnector,thenremovethe printhead.
6. Placethe newprintheadon itssupport,seatingitonthe two pins.
