Whenused from Sybase Central, the extraction utility carries out the
databaseunloading task, in the same way that
dbxtract
does,and then takes
theadditional step of creating the new database.
Theextraction utility does not use a message system. Thereload file
(
ssxtract
/
dbxtract
)or database (from Sybase Central) is created in a
directoryaccessible from the current machine. Synchronizing many
subscriptionsover a message link can produce heavy message traffic and, if
themessage system is not completely reliable, it may take some time for all
themessages to be properly received at the remote sites.
Before extracting a database
Youmust complete the following tasks before using the extraction utility at a
consolidateddatabase.
Createmessage types for replication.
Adda publisher user ID to the database.
Addremote users to the database.
Addthe publication to the database.
Createda subscription for the remote users.
Ifyou need to specify message link parameters, you must have set them.
Fora description of how to carry out these steps, see the tutorial in the
chapter“Tutorials for Adaptive Server Anywhere Users” on page 27. For a
descriptionof setting message link parameters, see “Setting message type
controlparameters” on page 214.
Whenyou use the extraction utility to create a remote database, the user for
whichyou are creating the database receives the same permissions they have
inthe consolidated database. Further,if the user is a member of any groups
onthe consolidated database, those group IDs are created in the remote
databasewith the permissions they have in the consolidated database.
