SQL Remote components

Thefollowing components are required for SQL Remote:

♦Dataser ver AnAdaptive Server Anywhere or Adaptive Server

Enterprisedatabase-management system is required at each site to

maintainthe data.

♦MessageAg ent ASQL Remote Message Agent is required at the

consolidatedsite and at each remote site to send and receive SQL Remote

messages.

TheMessage Agent connects to the data server by a client/server

connection. It may run on the same machine as the data server or on a

differentmachine.

♦Databaseextraction utility The extraction utility is used to prepare

remotedatabases from a consolidated database, during development and

testing,and also at deployment time.

♦Messagesystem client software SQL Remote uses existing message

systemsto transport replication messages. Aﬁle-sharing “message

system”is provided, which does not require client software. Each

computerinvolved in SQL Remote replication using a message system

otherthan ﬁle sharing must have that message system installed.

♦Clientapplications The applications that work with SQL Remote

databasesare standard client/server database applications.
