Appendix C Customizing the printer

Adding memory to the printer

You can purchase and install SIMMs to increase memory to a total of 64 MB.

NOTE: The KODAK DIGITAL SCIENCE 8650 PS / 48 MB / CMYK Color Printer comes with 48 MB of factory-installed memory.

The benefits of having additional memory are as follows:

You may increase the speed at which images are processed.

You can download more fonts with PostScript jobs.

Additional memory allows simultaneous processing and printing of more and/or larger jobs (that is, it increases the possible number of prints per hour). For example, operating in raster mode with 64 MB of memory lets you print one 9 1/2 x 14 job and process a second job of the same size. With less memory, only smaller jobs can be processed and printed.

The SIMMs should be 16 MB (in 4MB X 32 bit configuration), 72–pin, symmetrical, 70 nanosecond SIMMs. The following cards fit these specifications:

Mitsubishi—Part No. MH4M32BNXJ-7

Toshiba—Part No. THM324000s-70

Motorola—Part No. MCM32400s70
