Function of the indicators

Green indicator

The green LED lights up when the hard disk is accessed. You may not replace the hard disk at this time!

Orange indicator

The orange indicator flashes when, in conjunction with a Disk Array Controller, the configuration is determined or a rebuild is done. You may not replace the hard disk at this time!

The orange indicator stays bright if the hard disk is deactivated and/or defective and can be replaced.

8.1.2 Replacement of SCSI hard disk drive during operation

!

!

Never pull out a hard disk during operation if you are not sure that the hard disk is operated on a disk array controller and is part of a disk array that operated in the mode RAID Level 1 or 5.

Only if the orange indicator on the hard disk carrier remains bright may the hard disk be replaced while the system is in operation.

If you replace an hard disk during operation, proceed as follows:

ÊPull out the hard disk indicated as defective a few centimeters.

ÊWait at least 60 seconds so that the Disk Array Controller can recognize that a hard disk has been removed and also so that the hard disk can come to rest.

ÊPull the hard disk completely out.

ÊInsert the new hard disk.
