Configuring the server

Starting up and operation

–IPMI

The server is switched on by an IPMI console via serial port COM1 (item 8 in figure 8 on page 45) or via LAN port M (item 3 in figure 8 on page 45).

5.3Configuring the server

This section contains information about configuring the server and installing the operating system.

IMake sure that the energy saving functions are disabled in the BIOS Setup during server operation.

5.3.1Configuring onboard SAS controller

The server has an onboard SAS controller with “Integrated Mirroring Enhanced” functionality. You can configure the Onboard-SAS-Controller either before or during ServerStart. Using ServerStart is recommended.

IA separate utility is available to the controller for IME configuration. Further information can be found in the "Integrated RAID for SAS User’s Guide" (on the ServerBooks DVD under "Controllers").

IDescriptions of operating systems not covered in the RAID controller manual are provided in the appropriate readme files on the driver CDs.
