Connecting speakers

Using the speaker cable labels

The positive speaker terminals on the TX-SR701/701E/601/601E are color coded for easy identiﬁcation. Attach the supplied speaker labels to the speaker cables, and then match the colors on the speaker cables to the corresponding terminals.

The speaker channels are colored as follows:

Front left speaker (+): White

Front right speaker (+): Red

Center speaker (+): Green

Surround left speaker (+): Blue

Surround right speaker (+):Grey

Surround back speaker (+):Brown

Zone 2 left speaker (+): White

Zone 2 right speaker (+): Red

Note:

If you select “2ch (PRE OUT)” at the “1. Hardware Conﬁg” menu

→“ b. Surr Back” and use the PRE OUT terminals for 7.1ch sound, connect the speakers to the power ampliﬁer connected to the PRE OUT terminals without connecting any speakers to the Surround Back Speaker terminals on the TX-SR701/701E. Using the surround back terminals on both the TX-SR701/701E and power ampliﬁer will not produce correct surround sound effect (see page 55).

Connecting a subwoofer

Use the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT jack to connect a subwoofer with a built-in power ampliﬁer. If your subwoofer does not have a built- in ampliﬁer, connect an ampliﬁer to the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT jack and the subwoofer to the ampliﬁer.

Connecting the surround back speakers (TX-SR701/701E only)

If you connect the surround back speakers to the power ampliﬁer connected to the SURR BACK PRE OUT terminals on the TX- SR701/701E for 7.1ch sound playback, do not connect the surround back speakers to the SURROUND BACK SPEAKER terminals on the TX-SR701/701E. Connecting the surround back speakers to both the TX-SR701/701E and power ampliﬁer will not produce correct surround sound effect.
