Remote Notification
Remote Notification provides the user with the option of receiving alarms and notices at a remote location. Remote Notification also provides some basic controls that can be performed remotely on the UPS. Remote Notification operates through a standard computer modem. Using the Terminal mode, the user calls the UPS to perform basic monitoring and control. In the event of a UPS alarm or notice, the user is notified at the remote location. The UPS calls, through the modem, to the user’s computer or pager and leaves a message.
Remote Notification is an extension of the Terminal mode with the additional support algorithms necessary to control an external modem (refer to Chapter 7, “Serial Communications”). Connection to the UPS is made when a user calls the UPS on the phone. The user has exactly the same capabilities as if using a terminal connected directly to the UPS
