Appendices

Call Attempts/Retries:

Applications software shall be configured so that no more than 3 attempts are made to establish a connection to a given number (Note: if the modem can detect service tones, up to 10 attempts can be made). There must be at least 2 seconds between call attempts. If the call sequence is unsuccessful, there shall be a delay of at least 30 minutes before attempting to call the number again.

Failure to set the modem, and any communications software used with the modem, to the values shown above will result in the modem being operated in a non-compliant manner. Consequently, there would be no permit in force for this equipment, and the Telecommunications Act 1991 prescribes a penalty of $12,000 for the connection of non-permitted equipment.

For Voice Modems:

“Distortion may be generated because of low bit rate voice, and reduced voice quality may result.”

WARNING: For safety reasons, only connect AUSTEL permitted or AUSTEL certified equipment.”

Refer to the applicable MultiModemII Owner’s Manual for additional information.

Protection Against Contact with TNV Circuit (Internal PC Cards)

The protective cover is fastened to the modem card by means that will only allow a tool to remove the cover. “Warning: removal of the protective cover will render the AUSTEL permit void.”

New Zealand Telecom Warning Notice

“Use of pulse dialing, when this equipment is connected to the same line as other equipment, may give rise to “bell tinkle” or noise and may also cause a false answer condition. Should such problems occur, the user should NOT contact the Telecom Faults Service.”

“The preferred method of dialing is to use DTMF tones, as this is faster than pulse (decadic) dialing and is readily available on almost all New Zealand telephone exchanges.”

WARNING NOTICE: No ‘111’ or other calls can be made from this device during a mains power failure”.
