Why doesn't the device connected to the RS-232C serial port function?

"Confirm that the device is correctly connected to the floppy disk drive/port expander with an appropriate cable.

"Confirm that the external floppy disk drive/port ex￿ pander is connected correctly.

"Confirm that the application program is compliant with the RS-232C standard interface.

"Confirm that the COM1 port is not disabled by doing the following:

1.In the System Properties dialog box, select Device Manager.

2.Double-tap Ports, (COM&LPT); then double-tap Com￿ munications Port (COM1).

3.Make sure the item Disable in this hardware profile is unchecked.

"Confirm that COM1 is not used by another application.

"Confirm that the Serial Port is set up correctly in the setup utility.
