LThe unit is checking that there is no slack or

crease on the ink film. Wait for a moment while the check is completed.

UNIT OVERHEATED

LThe unit is too hot. Stop using the unit for a while and let the unit cool down.

9.3When a function does not work, check here

9.3.1 Initial settings

I cannot hear a dial tone.

LIf you used a splitter to connect the unit, remove the splitter and connect the unit to the

wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter.

LDisconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working

telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company.

LThe power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections.

LIf you connected the fax machine through a computer modem, connect the fax machine directly to a telephone line jack.

I cannot make calls.

LThe dialing mode setting may be wrong. Change the setting (feature #13, page 51).

The unit does not ring.

LThe ringer volume is turned OFF. Adjust it

(page 20).

LThe TAM ring setting of feature #06 is set to “RINGER OFF”. Change to another ring setting (page 51).

9.3.2 General

The unit displays “CHECK PAPER” though the paper is inserted.

LThe paper is inserted halfway. Insert it correctly (page 12) and press {START} to clear the message.

The other party complains they only hear a fax tone and cannot talk.

LFAX ONLY mode is set. Tell the other party the number is only used for faxes.

LChange the receiving mode:

TAM/FAX mode (page 35) or TEL mode (page 34)

LIf you use a Distinctive Ring service, make sure you have set the same ring pattern assigned by the telephone company (page 38).
