Exercising on the EFX

Once the EFX is assembled and turned ON, it is ready to use. The easy-to-under- stand prompts let you select a course and specify how long you want to work out. Begin working out and then, adapt the resistance level to meet your fitness goals.

CAUTION: Before beginning any fitness program, have your physician give you a complete physical examination.

USING THE HANDLEBARS

The handlebars on the EFX provide an upper-body workout that, when used properly, helps increase cardiovascular fitness. By adding the upper-body move- ment to your cross training workout, you’re actually increasing your work effort and enhancing your overall fitness level. A variety of hand positions can intensify the effectiveness of your workout. Ask the Club personnel for ideas on how to utilize the EFX handlebars to meet your personal fitness goals.

USING THE STATIONARY HANDRAILS

When you step on to or off of the foot pedals and when you use the display keys, always grasp at least one of the stationary handrails to help keep your balance. During a workout, use the stationary handrails to rest or slow down your upper-body movement.

If your club purchased the Precor Touch Heart Rate factory-installed option, “touch-sensitive” electrode strips are part of the stationary handrails. If you wish to view your heart rate on the display, grasp the touch-sensitive electrode strips on the handrails while working out. Your heart rate signal is transmitted to the receiver installed in the display console. During your workout, the heart rate indicator lights and blinks at the same rate as your pulse. This lets you see what your heart rate is doing even when the display is presenting other workout statistics. For more information, refer to The Heart Rate Feature on page 30.

PAUSE, COOL DOWN AND EXIT FEATURES

Pausing, cooling down, and exiting are integral parts of your workout and can be accessed any time during a course. The EFX goes through several prerequisites before actually exiting a course. The following tables explain the various situations.

you complete it Enter Cool Down. At the start of the cool-down period, the resistance is reduced by 20%. You can adjust the setting using the numeric or ▼▲ keys. The display features re- main, so you can review your workout statistics.

Note: A Cool-down period is appended to those courses that have a finite duration. If you do not enter a Workout Time during the Setup prompts, or the club has set “no limit” as the default duration, then a cool-down period does not occur when you reach the end of a course.
