SEAT-TO-FLOOR

PROCEDURE 9

This Procedure includes the following:

Seat-To-Floor Height Determination

Changing Seat-To-Floor Height

Axle Mounting Plate Positions for 20, 22 or 24-inch Rear Wheels

Inline Caster Headtube Front Seat-to-Floor Heights

Offset Caster Headtube Front Seat-to-Floor Heights

WARNING

The seat height, seat depth, back angle, seating sys- tem, size and position of the rear wheels, as well as the user condition directly relate to the stability of the wheelchair. Any change to one (1) or any com- bination of the seven (7) may cause the wheelchair to decrease in stability. These adjustments MUST be performed by an authorized dealer or qualified technician.

After adjustments and before use make sure all at- taching hardware is securely tightened.

SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT DETERMINATION

Rear Seat-to-floor Height (FIGURE 1)

Rear seat-to-floor height is determined by measuring the distance between the rear of the seat upholstery and the ground/floor.

NOTE: The rear seat-to-floor heights are based on pneumatic tires and pneumatic tires with flat free in- serts. If wheelchair is equipped with urethane tires, subtract 1/4-inch from the measurements listed on the following pages. All heights are approximate to +1/4-inch due to tire wear and air pressure.

NOTE: For Folding and Rigid Frames w/o seat rails, subtract 1-3/4-inches from S-T-F listed below. This will give distance from top of side frame to floor.

DETERMINATION

Front Seat-to Floor Height (FIGURE 2)

NOTE: The front seat-to-floor heights are ap- proximate to +1/4-inch.

Front seat-to-floor height is determined by measur- ing the distance between the front of the seat up- holstery and the ground/floor.

NOTE: For Folding and Rigid Frames w/o seat rails, subtract 1-3/4-inches from S-T-F listed below. This will give distance from top of side frame to floor.

DETERMINATION

Seat Dump

The rear seat-to-floor height measurement in com- bination with the front seat-to-floor height mea- surement determine the amount of seat dump the wheelchair will have.

For Example:

An 18-1/4-inchfront seat-to-floor height measurement

MINUS

a 17-inchrear seat-to-floor height measurement

EQUALS

1-1/4-inches of seat dump

NOTE: Invacare recommends that the rear seat-to- floor height be AT LEAST 3/8-inch shorter than the front seat-to-floor height. Otherwise a forward seat dump can occur.
