III.Initial Operation of the Furnace:

A.Initial Startup:

Turn off power to furnace. Before the gas piping system is placed into service, it must have been leak tested by a qualified heating contractor. (Refer to the General Gas Piping Requirements section of this manual regarding the installation and leak testing of gas piping).

For initial start-up of the appliance after installation, it may be necessary to purge the air out of the gas line. A qualified heating contractor should do this. If excessive gas escapes when purging the gas supply at a pipe union joint, allow the gas to disperse for at least 15 minutes before attempting to start the appliance. LP gases are especially dangerous because the specific gravity of LP gases allows them to accumulate at ground level at possibly explosive concentrations.

Review the following items before the initial startup. It may be helpful to review the Sequence of Operations in Appendix B of this manual, also.

a.Check all wiring for loose connections and proper hook-up. Refer to the connection diagram.
