are higherthan thoseused for cooking. The high temperaturescausefood soil
to burnoff and substantiallydisappear.While this occurs,a devicein the oven
venthelps to consumenormalamounts ofsmoke.Theoven is ventedthroughan
openingundertheair grilleon thetop oftherange.

How to pare Oven Before Operating

•Removetheroastingpanandany otherutensilsfromtheoven.These utensils
cannotwithstandthe hightemperaturesofthecleaning process.
•Theovenrockscan becleaned in theoven.However, theoven racks will
discolor,lose shininess,and becomedifficult to slideinand out if left in
the oven during thecleaning process.REMOVE RACKS FROM OVEN IF
THIS DISCOLORATION WILL BE OBJECTIONABLE.Asasuggestion,do
not leavethe racksin the oven during eachself-cleaning processif they
donot need to be cleanedsincethey willdiscolorto adull silverafter many
cleanings.Moderatelysoiledrackscan be cleanedwitha soapyS.O.S. pad
orScotch-Britescour-pad.Stubbornstainsneed to beremovedin theself-
cleaningprocess.Be sure to readspecial tipson page 39 ifoven racksare
cleanedduringtheself-cleaningprocess.
•Cleanspattersandspillsfrom thoseareas
whichwill not becleanedduringtheself-
cleaningprocess:
--centerfrontofovenanddoornearopen-
ingindoor gasket.
--porcelain ovendoor liner (area outside
thedoor gasket).
--stainlesssteelovenfrontframe.
NOTE: DO NOT CLEAN serial plate
locatedonthe ovenfront.
To cleantheseareas, use hot water and
detergent,nonabrasivecleansersorsoap
filledsteelwoolpads(rubwiththebrushed
grainonthe ovenfront frameto prevent
scratching).Rinsethoroughly,beingcare-
fulnotto useanexcessiveamountofwater
thatwould dampen thedoor gasket. So#
taftin theseareas wi// be more difficuH toremove after the serf-cleaning
processsince the high heat will bake on any soil thatis present. DO NOT
USECOMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERSTO CLEAN THESE AREAS.
•Ifyouintendto usegrillwhencleaningtheoven,make suregreasecontainer
isemptyto preventapossibleoverflow.
