Menus: When playing, tap the Menu button in the upper left corner of the touchscreen to display menus. Tap it again to hide them. Start new game, Resign, and View history are the menu choices.

View a history of moves in the current game: Tap the Menu button and then View history. To dismiss the history, tap the and then the Menu button again to hide the menus.

The following are the settings for Chess. You might want to set them before playing.

Your color

Choose your color, White, Black, or Random.

Difficulty

Level of difficulty for the games, including new games and resumed

 

games. Levels are:

 

Easy: Level for those who are learning chess. This is the default.

 

Normal: Level for those who play chess

 

Hard: Level for more experienced chess players

Time control

Time limit for cumulative moves for each player. Values are 5, 10 (the

 

default), and 15.

Save game before exit

Resume prior game on startup

Whether to automatically save the current game when exiting Chess.

Yes: Save the current game on exit. This is the default.

No: Do not save the current game on exit.

Whether to automatically resume the prior game on startup:

Yes: Resume the prior game on startup (when you choose Play against nook). If the prior game was finished, start a new game. This is the default.

No: Start a new game on startup (when you choose Play against nook).

Starting and Resuming Games

When you leave the Chess application using the Back button or by tapping the Home button, your NOOK pauses the chess game (the timer controls stop and the last positions are remembered).

To start a chess game, tap Play against nook:

If the setting Resume prior game on startup is Yes, and there is a prior game to resume, your NOOK resumes the prior game.

If the setting Resume prior game on startup is No, or if there is no prior game to resume, your NOOK starts a new game.
