Protection from Viruses and Other Malware

It is unlikely that your NOOK could become infected by a virus or other malware. Your NOOK does not host applications; this reduces the likelihood of malware infection. The file types supported by your NOOK are also unlikely to harbor malware, although some of them can. Your nook does have an Internet browser, which could be a source of infection.

It is possible to transfer files containing malware to and from your NOOK using USB, just as it is possible to transfer files that are not infected. In some cases, infected computers can transfer infections to USB drives automatically.

We recommend that any computer to which you connect your NOOK is scanned routinely with up-to-date antivirus/anti-malware software, and that you scan files before transferring them to your NOOK.

You can also scan the nook drive and a drive for a supplemental microSD card if present, when your NOOK is connected to USB.
