Hints: Hints are additional given values (that is, they are correct values). If you cannot figure out the value to put in a square, or have gotten conflicting values, you could enter a hint.

Entering Values

Playing Sudoku entails entering a value in each empty square.

To enter a value in a square:

1Study the Sudoku grid on the reading screen and decide on a value to enter in a specific square.

2Scroll the Sudoku board on the touchscreen so that the square is visible.

3Tap the square.

4If Notes mode is active (the Notes button is blue), tap Notes.

5Tap the value you want to enter. One of two things happens:

A black value appears on the touchscreen, and the value appears on the reading screen. In this case, the value you chose does not conflict with any other values already on the board. It is not, however, necessarily the correct value to solve the puzzle.

A red value appears on the touchscreen, and the value appears on the reading screen. In this case, there is some conflict between the value you entered and a value already on the board. For example, you might have entered a 7 in a square, failing to observe that there is already a 7 further down in the same column,

Entering Notes

Before entering values in squares, you might want to enter notes. Notes let you consider multiple possibilities. At some stage in the game, you might determine that a square can contain a 4 or 7. You can enter those as notes. Later, when it becomes clear that the square must contain a 4, you can replace the notes with the value 4.

When you enter notes, no notes or values are flagged with red to indicate conflicts.

You can use the following procedure to enter notes in an empty square, a square that already contains notes, and a square that contains a value.

To enter notes or change the notes in a square:

1Decide on notes to enter in a specific square.

2Scroll the Sudoku board on the touchscreen so that the square is visible.

3Tap the square.

4If the square already contains a value, tap Clear.
