Command Line Error Log Analysis
Acommand line utility has been provided that allows you to run SSA error log analysis
from a manually-entered command or from shell scripts. The utility is ssa_ela. It can
perform SSAerror log analysis on:
vAll SSA devices
vAselected hdisk
vAselected pdisk
vAselected adapter
vAny of the above items for a history period of up to seven days
See ssa_ela Commandon page353 for details of how to use the utility.
run_ssa_ela cron
During installation of the SSAdevice drivers, the following entry is added to the cron
table:
015***/usr/lpp/diagnostics/bin/run_ssa_ela 1>/dev/null 2>/dev/null
This cron entry instructs the run_ssa_ela shell script to run at 05:01 each day for all
SSAdevices that are configured in the using system. The shell script analyzes the error
log. If it finds any problems, the script warns the user in the following ways. It sends:
vAmessage to /dev/console. This message is displayed on the system console.
vAn OPMSG to the error log. This message indicates the source of the error.
vAmail message to ssa_adm.
Note: ssa_adm is an alias address that is set up in /etc/aliases. By default this
address is set to root, but you can change it to any valid mail address for the
using system.
