IP Settings section

Unit Name field

The Unit Name field contains the locally-assigned name of the MKP. This name field can be changed to any valid name, up to 24 alphanumeric characters.

The following characters are invalid in the unit name: + ~ , @ = ‘ [ ] { } < > ’ “ ; : \ and ?.

DHCP radio buttons

The DHCP On radio button directs the MKP to ignore any entered IP addresses and to obtain its IP address from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server (if the network is DHCP capable). The DHCP Off radio button turns DHCP off. Contact the local system administrator.

IP Address field

The IP Address field contains the IP address of the MKP. This value is encoded in the MKP’s flash memory.

Valid IP addresses consist of four 1-, 2-, or 3-digit numeric subfields (octets) separated by dots (periods). Each octet can be numbered from 000 through 255. Leading zeroes, up to 3 digits total per field, are optional. Values of 256 and above are invalid.

The factory-installed default address is 192.168.254.253, but if this conflicts with other equipment at your installation, you can change the IP address to any valid value.

IP address changes can cause conflicts with other equipment. Only local system administrators should change IP addresses.

Gateway IP Address field

The Gateway IP Address field identifies the address of the gateway to the switcher’s to be used if the MKP and the server are not on the same subnet.

The gateway IP address has the same validity rules as the

MKP’s IP address. The default is 000.000.000.000.

Subnet Mask field

The Subnet Mask field is used to determine whether the MKP is on the same subnet as the switcher’s server when you are subnetting. The default is 255.255.000.000.

MAC Address field

The Media Access Control (MAC) Address is hardcoded in the MKP and cannot be changed.

Switcher Settings section

MKP Connection Priority settings

Click the appropriate radio button to select among:

The Ethernet (IP) port to issue commands to the connected switcher

The MKP as primary (its Switch RS-232 port connected to the switcher)

The MKP as secondary (the MKP controls the switcher through another MKP)

Host Control Port settings

If the RS-232 radio button is selected in the Switcher Control Method box, click the MKP 2000 or Control System Pass Through radio button to select that function for the Host RS-232 port.

MKP 2000 selected — Commands received on the Host RS-232 port are executed by the MKP.

Pass Through selected — Commands received on the Host RS-232 port are forwarded to the connected switcher via the Switch RS-232 port.

If the IP radio button is selected in the Switcher Control Method box, the Host Control Port Settings selections are grayed out and unavailable.

Switcher IP settings

If the connected matrix switcher is Ethernet enabled, its IP address and password (if assigned) can be entered in these fields. The address and password are required for the MKP and the matrix switcher to communicate via their RJ-45 LAN connections. The default IP address value is 000.000.000.000.

If the Secondary MKP Connection Priority is selected, this section and all of the selections within it are labeled “Primary MKP” rather than “Switcher”.

Switcher Size settings

The MKP cannot determine the matrix size of the switcher to which it is connected. You must use the Switcher Size drop boxes to specify the number of inputs and outputs.

When creating ties from the front panel, if an input or output outside the available range for this MKP or the connected matrix switcher is selected, the LED display shows N-A.
