The iPAQ Music Center makes recording your favorite music easy and fun! You can record all or part of a CD.

Background Information

Compression technology minimizes the size of a digital audio file while attempting to retain the fidelity of the original recording. The file size is minimized by employing perceptual encoding techniques that retain elements of the original recording necessary to faithfully reproduce the music, but eliminate all of the elements not essential to human hearing (hence, the frequently used term near CD quality).

The bit rate determines the size of the file. A higher bit rate encodes more information, which makes for a larger file and in turn a higher fidelity recording. For a smaller file size and a higher level of compression, a lower bit rate is used. Bit rates are measured in kilobits per second (kbps) and can range from 96 kbps to 320 kbps, with 128 kbps MP3 being the generally accepted bit rate for near CD quality.

MP3 is one popular technique of compressing audio files.
