2.8.4 The Server Relationship

The following defines the roles and relationships between the server types:

Backup Server:

The Backup Server plays a central control point for the Recovery Manager that controls and manages the backup and restore on different Mailbox Servers.

IF using NetBackup in the backup environment, the Backup Server will need to have the backup client or master installed.

When specifying the verification server with the -vs option (see RMExch backup on

page 7.5) for backups, the server must have the Recovery Manager Backup Server installed.

Mailbox Servers:

The Mailbox Servers can be standalone servers or participate as a member of a DAG. Connectivity:

Both the Backup Server and Mailbox Servers need to be connected to the same InServ. To manage a DAG-enabled configuration from a single backup server for DAG nodes that connect to two InServs within the same site, the backup server needs to connect to two InServs with separate Fibre Channel or iSCSI connections. The InServs also need to be in the same active directory domain.
