TRIM INSTALLATION
Do not allow the trim materials to extend closer than 3/8 inch to the vertical edges of the firebox opening if you plan to equip the fireplace with glass doors.
The face of your fireplace may be left exposed or trimmed. If trim is installed, be sure it is fastened securely to the face of the fireplace. Any crack between the trim material and the face of the fireplace could pose a fire hazard and impair the proper operation of the fireplace; seal such cracks. See Figure 31. Blocking the fireplace with framing and attaching the base to the supporting floor will reduce the possibility of a crack redeveloping after sealing. (CAUTION: ACCEPTABLE COMBUSTIBLE MANTEL LOCATION SHOWN BY PART C OF
FIGURE 31 IS FOR WOODBURNING FIREPLACE INSTALLATION ONLY. SEE FIGURES 29 AND 30 FOR ACCEPTABLE COMBUSTIBLE MANTEL LOCATIONS WHEN AN UNVENTED GAS APPLIANCE IS INSTALLED IN THE FIREPLACE.)
