LOCAL MICROPHONE and SPEAKER
The RI-300 has a local microphone jack that supports all Vertex type microphones. You can use this input to directly talk on
the repeater transmitter. The audio from the microphone will mix with the repeater audio. You can also set S-Command 23 to
control which CTCSS/DCS tone is generated with local microphone activity. You can also use a DTMF equipped microphone
for controlling.
The speaker jack will drive an 8-ohm speaker. This output is the same audio as routed to the repeater transmitter. There is no
level adjustment available on this output.
There are two types of control operations, user commands and system commands.
1. The system commands (S-Commands) are the principal means for the repeater owner to configure and control the
RI-300's basic operation. These commands typically change the characteristics of the system or turn on/off functions of the
system.
2. The user commands are commands that the repeater owner builds to customize the repeater for the users.
INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE
There are two distinctive methods of re-initializing and returning to the factory default data. Default data for each of the
S-Commands is listed in section 12 and the System Command Table at the end of this manual. To initialize the RI-300 data,
use the following procedure:
1. Turn the power to the RI-300 off.
2. While depressing the initialization button, turn the power back on.
3. Wait until all the status LEDs turn on for two seconds and then release the initialization button.
4. During this initialization procedure, all default data except for the audio level digital pot positions, which were loaded into
the repeater controller’s “EEPROM” non-volatile memory. During the writing process to the EEPROM, all status LEDs
will remain on (approximately 8 to 10 seconds).
5. If you need to initialize the digital pot audio levels, during the power on initialization, continue holding the initialization
button for more than fifteen seconds. Then release the button. This initialization loads all default data including the audio
level digital pot positions. Also during the pot initialization, you may hear the controller produce a CW “OK” when it has
completed.
Pressing the initialization button while power is applied after the power on reset is complete will not change any data or be
detrimental. After the power has been on for 2 to 3 seconds, the initialization button can be pressed to turn the LED display
into a receiver audio level meter.
