5.1LAN Overview

Local Area Network (LAN) is a shared communication system to which many computers are attached. The LAN screens can help you confi gure a LAN DHCP server, manage IP addresses, and partition your physical network into logical networks.Please see the Wizard Setup chapter for the background information about Primary and Secondary DNS Server and IP Address and Subnet Mask.

5.2LANs and WANs

A LAN is a computer network limited to the immediate area, usually the same building or fl oor of a building. A WAN (Wide Area Network), on the other hand, is an outside connection to another network or the Internet.

The actual physical connection determines whether the WR3000 Wireless Router ports are LAN or WAN ports. There are two separate IP networks, one inside, the LAN network; the other outside: the WAN network as shown next:
